Design and Price

The Z50 has a very attractive front that looks quite promising. It has slightly curved corners and a smooth finish on the glass. The back panel looks rather durable though not too heavy in appearance, which keeps people with smaller hands from slipping over the rear. These changes are noticeable when I touch some parts of the phone. Although the plastic is lightweight which makes moving it easily, still it feels like being wrapped in soft paper. The top bezel is pretty easy to grip while using this smartphone. On the other hand, the sides could need some improvement. Not all sides of the Z50 are made out of plastic though, there is a glossy black material

surrounding the front, making it difficult to access in certain places. At times the rear camera lens gets stuck in the palm rest area when trying to pull the side button up. No damage or damage to the surface is visible at all. Lastly, the speakers sound clear; however, the volume slider isn’t located anywhere near where users must reach it. The power button does not have any buttons. There aren't many ports either, except for a USB charging cable.

Features

The main feature of these smartphones are their excellent cameras. They offer fantastic photography ability with high dynamic range without compromising much. Even with limited shooting distance with low ISO settings, your photos will be amazing. In addition to taking awesome shots, they also have decent autofocus abilities. While recording videos, the depth of field should be maintained in terms of background blurriness for better detail. The two rear cameras capture good images and sounds. Still, a larger sensor on the rear camera can make things even better. Overall, both the primary rear cameras could do wonders but there is one area where they couldn't do anything more than capturing pictures. The telephoto lens has no option for zoom yet. So for what it’s worth, they are decent cameras. The front camera is actually surprisingly good. However, again, its aperture is slightly slower than the lens it's attached to.

The phone has Qualcomm's Helio P35 chipset coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. Its 5G version will likely have different configurations but is likely going to rely on 3G chipsets. Other hardware components include a MediaTek Dimensity 800U processor paired with 6.67 inches FHD+ resolution OLED capacitive touchscreen, Bluetooth v5.1, Wi-Fi 802 BLE/LTE wireless technologies; 2 MP stereo front camera, dual SIM slots, GPS receiver, NFC chip, fingerprint reader and a side-mounted pop-out nano USB port.

Display

The 6.67-inch AMOLED IPS display is quite crisp and vibrant, with vivid colours and a rich contrast ratio. You can see how bright the screen appears in sunlight. The maximum brightness of the display is 1200 nits. To be honest, you won't notice much difference in any way at all since the display is not too bright for day activities. But just like the last generation of Pixel 5X, the display is perfect for watching movies or playing games in dim light conditions. Moreover, if you happen to use a night mode setting on your phone, then the display is able to deliver more accurate results. For everyday usage, the display is quite sufficient though the colour accuracy might lack especially when compared to higher res displays. Also, due to the pixel pitch being lower than 720p (720 x 1600), the overall clarity and sharpness of the image won't be as great. But in general, the display works well for both video calls and gaming. Another thing to keep in mind is that it is very difficult to play games at 60 fps when running the game via Airplane Mode. Since we have been using Google's own Stadia service to run our favorite titles, it works perfectly fine. As far as content consumption is concerned, the display is super fast and responsive. One major drawback is the lag during scrolling through web pages since it takes almost half a second to update the UI. All things considered, the display seems to be acceptable.

Battery Life and Power Consumption

The first thing we need to mention about this smartphone is its battery capacity. According to the current report, it can provide about 22 hours of usable time with moderate usage. Although the new OnePlus Nord was launched recently, it is unlikely that it would make much difference in terms of real life usage. Therefore, we will have to wait and see if future versions would have bigger batteries or whether the company plans to release upgraded models in the next couple of weeks or months. Meanwhile, the Mi 11 Pro Max is expected to launch soon after the Z50.

The phone runs on Qualcomm's Exynos 9810A chipset and powers through its massive 512GB onboard storage. With support for MagSafe, the phone allows locking and un-locking the devices. Unfortunately, the phone doesn't support reverse charges. That being said, the Z50 can charge relatively well thanks to the 5020 mAh battery. During testing, the phone reached 0% in under 30 minutes. Additionally, the 120W charger you get with the phone can add another 20 minutes to the total period by quickly recharging for five consecutive days. Overall, the phone takes roughly 7 percent less juice than Apple iPhones due to its small size. Nonetheless, if you plan to install multiple apps on your phone, then it can really help with productivity tasks. After all, you'll be getting a little bit of extra functionality with the additional USB-C port. When used alongside third party chargers, the speed of transferring data will be significantly faster. Furthermore, you can utilize your AC outlet to boost the battery output if needed.

Overall Performance of the Phone

When considering the mobile performance of the Z50, we found its big brother to perform admirably. The phone has three distinct cores, namely, the CPU, GPU, and the memory. Each core handles separate functions which means each core performs efficiently. The combination of these three components together leads to outstanding system performance, as they work in harmony in tandem.

Hence, the phone can handle demanding applications smoothly with minimal lags. The result is a seamless user experience. Although it had issues with downloading files, the app installed on my phone did not cause problems at all. Just like always, expect every situation and user experience to be unique at least in theory.

For example, the graphics card is capable enough to render animated GIFs without lagging. Sometimes the frame rate drops quite a bit in order to render animations smoothly. Fortunately, this problem was solved by enabling ray tracing and allowing the framerates to slowly recover from crashes in the process. The same goes for gameplay; sometimes it stutters a bit when racing against cars. Luckily, this issue could be fixed fairly easily. Otherwise, enjoy smooth gameplay and smooth motion tracking.

Battery Usage

The battery for these smartphones typically lasts between four and seven days in normal situations. If left unattended, then there is a serious risk of catching fire due to increased heat levels. Depending on how you charge the phone, you may be looking at somewhere close to four to eight hours of pure juice. In comparison, Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, OnePlus Nord, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and LG Victus V60, which were included in this list, have respective capacities around 5-7 hours. Still, the phone offers nearly 40 hours of continuous playback time on average. Of course, the battery drain fluctuates depending on how frequently you're using the phone.

OnePlus Nord is known to be among the heaviest-duty Android smartphones in terms of weight. Thanks to its sturdy build and IP68 rating, this device cannot be dropped even when dropping a fair amount of
